Creating a quiet and warm environment in a conservation area property
How adding secondary glazing to original timber windows created warmth and calm for David and his family

David lives with his family in a large Edwardian house in High Barnet. Its original windows are charming, and in good condition, but a bit draughty, and the house is located on a busy and noisy road.
With it being an Article 4 conservation area, secondary glazing appealed to David, as it doesn’t require planning permission. We were recommend to David by a friend, and after checking out the secondary glazing information on our website he got in touch.
“With a young family it was obviously important to me to keep them warm and create an environment conducive to a good night’s sleep!” said David. “I was very conscious of not wanting to detract from the traditional look of the house by replacing the windows, and so secondary glazing seemed like a route worth investigating.”
Our secondary glazing expert Tommy visited David for a survey and configured a practical and discreet solution that allowed easy access to the primary windows for ventilation and cleaning.
“We spoke about a range of design options and opted to use a combination of horizontal sliding and vertical sliding units”, said David. “We also specified an acoustic laminated glass to maximise the sound performance of the secondary glazing”.

The completed installation left David and his family delighted. “It was difficult to predict exactly what the impact would be, particularly in regard to the noise, but the results exceeded our expectations, and the installation team were efficient and respectful of our home”.
