Our range of entrance doors

At Barnet Window Company we are proud to have long standing partnerships with two great door suppliers – Solidor & The English Door Company. But what are the differences between these products? Here we will try to summarise the main variations…

Simply put, Solidor doors are composite doors, and English Door Company doors are UPVC (timber alternative).

Solidor composite doors are made from various materials, including reinforced UPVC (for the frames) solid engineered hardwood (for the core of the door itself) and thermoplastic (a type of super strong plastic, the same thing that Lego is made of!) for the wrapping of the timber core.

These doors come in a very large range of set designs and colours and can be customised with a large choice of decorative glass features and door furniture. They are warm, secure, and extremely durable. Take a look at our Solidor Door Designer for more information.

The English Door Company doors are predominantly made from UPVC. But not just ‘normal’ UPVC. They have been carefully designed to replicate the look and feel of original period timber doors, just without the maintenance associated with wood.

English Door Company doors are all handmade, as one-off bespoke doors, and therefore can be customised beyond what is possible with the more standardised composite doors. We can create doors in almost any design, and colour coat them to the colour(s) of your choice. Glass features can be created as unique one-off pieces, whether that’s a design from scratch or a replication of an existing stained/leaded unit.

Both doors achieve the same high levels of security and thermal efficiency and are also both very low maintenance. All of our doors come with a 12 year guarantee as standard.

Which door would best suit your needs would depend on various factors, like how specific your design requirements are, and also how much money you want to spend. Due to the more bespoke nature of the English Door Company doors, they typically attract a cost premium compared to the composite range.
